I finally started Brené Brown’s Atlas of the Heart book today after far too long of hesitation.
I was hesitant because I knew it would be transformative. Just like my fear of starting Untamed by Glennon Doyle, I knew I needed to be ready to read, comprehend, and self-reflect on the information.
A massive part of wanting to help others is remembering that you have also to help yourself.
Understanding the emotions, reactions, and triggers of strangers meant that I needed to understand myself first.
"When we stop numbing and start feeling and learning again, we have to reevaluate everything, especially how to choose loving ourselves over making other people comfortable. It was the hardest work I've ever done and continue to do."
For far too long, I was not ready to do the hard work of choosing me, loving me, support me.
The beauty of the work, though is you find those that choose you, that love you, and that support you.
